Apples, apples everywhere. . .who knew such fun could be had! We had a blast painting a paper plate to make an apple, painting with red and green at the easel and even using a real apple to make apple prints with! Did you know that an apple will float in water? That is one of the many new things that we learned this week about apples! During our apple taste test we discovered red apples were the most popular. We graphed the results from our highly scientific test, take a look at our graph outside the door! We also made homemade applesauce this week...the kids had lots of fun mashing the cooked apples into sauce! As an added bonus...we got to taste test our homemade applesauce with the applesauce that came with the school lunch! We thought that both were delicious!! We had two opportunities for sensory play this week; play-dough to roll and twist AND we measured and scooped apple pie oatmeal in the sensory table. We also worked on some number recognition with two different apple games. The children had to count the number of seeds in the apple or apples in the tree and identify the number. We will continue working on this skill throughout the coming weeks! Our fine motor focus this week came in the form of tweezers. We had a "small world" sensory bin set up with an apple tree, pom pom "apples" and a bucket. The children had to use tweezers to transfer the apples into the bucket...it was great fun! Next week we will continue with our month long fall theme, and learn about how animals in the fall! This is one of our favorite apple songs that we have been singing...
Way up high, in the tree Way up high, in the tree, Five red apples smiled at me, So I shook that tree as hard as I could, Down came an apple mmm, mmm, good! (Continue with four, three, etc) Gentle Reminders: We are still waiting for a few people to bring in classroom supplies or the $25.00 that we requested at the beginning of the year! If you know that we are waiting on you...please bring it in!!
