We spent the week talking about the cutest of all "winter" animals, the penguin! We learned that penguins live "at the bottom" of the globe, in Antarctica and areas of Argentina, Peru and Australia. We learned that there are many different types of penguins...and they are all different sizes and colors. We talked about how most penguins build a nest and sit on their eggs, but the two largest species of Penguins, the Emperor and the King keep their eggs warm in a completely different way! At the art table we assembled a penguin and made adorable penguin headbands We measured ourselves against a penguin cut out....the Emperor penguin is the largest of all the Penguins and taller than all our threes! The children really enjoyed playing with our penguins during center time this week. Icebergs, insta-snow and our light table were some of the materials we used to mimic the frozen habitat of Antarctica! We also had our penguin number recognition game out this week. We needed to identify the number, and "feed" the penguin the appropriate number of fish erasers. "Snow" much fun to play outside this week!! It's that time of year...flu, colds, coughs and stomach bugs abound! Please help us keep our classroom healthy (or as healthy as possible) by abiding by our sick policy! Your child MUST BE fever free WITHOUT TYLENOL OR MOTRIN for 24 hours before they can return to Little Scouts!! We know how hard it is to take that extra sick day, but it really does help keep the germs isolated!
