We finished up our Arctic Studies this week. There are so many fascinating facts that we learned about the arctic and arctic animals. Because it is so cold there, many of the animals that live there have developed special adaptations like furry feet to help them survive the harsh climate. We talked a lot about camouflage this week, and how it helps both the animals that are doing the hunting and the animals that are being hunted...check out our winter/summer bulletin board in the hallway, lots of fun facts! At the art table this week we made a walrus and completed our January portfolio page! We played with one of our favorites, the light table. Children are naturally drawn to the gentle glow of a light table, which is just fun! This week we used our translucent magna-tiles to build on top of the light table, as you can see...our structures look extra magical with the lighting!! A big thanks to Mrs. Lee who (once again) brought in a selection of Korean treats to celebrate the Lunar New Year! She also gifted each of the children a traditional red envelope for luck and happiness in the new year! Happy Lunar New Year! Next week we will be traveling down the the south pole so that we can learn about our favorite fine feathered friends...the penguins!
