We have started our two week Under the Sea Unit and we have learned so much already! We talked about the different layers of the ocean (the ocean surface, the twilight zone and the seafloor) and what types of sea life you might find in the different layers. We also learned that the deeper you go in the ocean, the colder it gets...because the water filters out the sunlight! No green plants grow in the twilight zone because there isn't enough sun! It is really, really cold on the seafloor!! Our art table was filled with sea life...fish with rainbow scales, (make sure to ask your child what we used as our paintbrush!) we painted a paper plate whale, and we assembled sharks out of paper! We played a fun fishing for numbers game! The children had to "catch" a number fish on their line, and then match it correctly on the play mat. We also played with our sea creatures in the sensory table. Thursday June 8th, from 9:30-11:00 the children of Little Scouts will be taking to the field for some outdoor fun and games!
Children who do not attend on Thursdays and those who have already finished for the school year are invited to attend with a parent or guardian. We can use all the help we can get to make Field Day a fantastic day for everyone! Next week be sure to look for a sign up sheet in the room, if you are able to spend the morning with us please make sure to sign up! On Field Day please make sure to send your child dressed to run around and play! Athletic shoes and sunscreen is a must!! We will be outside all morning!
