It may have been a short week, but it was a busy one. We have LOTS of pictures so you can see just how much fun we had! We continued our penguin exploration this week. We talked about Penguin chicks...how most penguins build a nest (but most certainly NOT in a tree because we now know that penguins are flightless birds)and sit on their eggs, but the two largest species of Penguins, the Emperor and the King keep their eggs warm in a completely different way! We wore our penguin headbands while pretending to be Emperor penguins huddled together to keep themselves and their eggs...which they hold on their feet warm! It is very hard as a human to hold an "egg" on your feet without it rolling away! We also measured ourselves against two penguin cut outs....the Emporer penguin is the largest of all the Penguins...and the Fairy penguin which is the tiniest of all the penguins. (the Fairy penguin is also officially known as The Little Blue Penguin, although our kids also refer to it as the "Tinkerbelle" penguin!) Grandma Mack brought her glockenspiels for us to play this week. Next week we will move away from our polar animal study and start to talk about what animals who are a bit more local do in the winter!
