We are starting to get into a routine here in our classroom. We had some new friends join us this week and we now have our entire class! The transition to the three's classroom always brings changes...one of the big ones that we introduced this week is center time. Center time is a big part of our daily morning routine in the three year old room. Centers are typically areas within the classroom where the children will learn by playing and engaging in activities that revolve around our theme of the week. This is when we will spend focused time working on important 3 year old skills: letter and number recognition, pre-math skills such as 1 to 1 correspondence, sorting, subitizing with 5 and 10 frames, and fine motor work such as cutting, stringing beads, using tweezers and making play dough shapes. Before we start our "real work" we need to get the children used to moving from center to center. We also started our jobs this week...each morning during our circle time 6 children (on a rotating basis) get to choose one of our classroom jobs...so fun! Classroom jobs are a vital part of our classroom routine because it helps our students to feel important, it helps the children learn responsibility and it also helps to promote positive behavior! Plus it gives us all an opportunity to contribute to our classroom community! This week we painted at the easel and did some dot art. You can check out the dot art creations in the hallway! We are hoping that next week will be the last of the extra cold temperatures inside the school...maintenance is working on the issue! In the meantime, please continue to dress your child in layers and make sure that they have a sweatshirt here at school to help ward off the chill!
Next week we will continue to learn our new routines, as well as participating in our very first theme of the class....COLORS! We hope you all enjoy the long weekend!
