We spent the week talking about the cutest of all "winter" animals, the penguin! We learned that penguins live "at the bottom" of the globe, in Antarctica and areas of Argentina, Peru and Australia. We learned that there are many different types of penguins...and they are all different sizes and colors. We talked about how most penguins build a nest and sit on their eggs, but the two largest species of Penguins, the Emperor and the King keep their eggs warm in a completely different way! At the art table we used watercolors to make the Southern Lights and then added a penguin, we made adorable penguin headbands and we assembled a penguin. So much penguin fun!! We measured ourselves against a penguin cut out....the Emperor penguin is the largest of all the Penguins and taller than all of our children! The light table came out this week and was a big hit! It was so cool to see the light come through the magna-tiles! We also had two of our penguin number recognition games out this week. We needed to identify the number, and "feed" the penguin the appropriate number of fish erasers. The other game involved putting the correct number of penguins on the iceberg! We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday, February 12th. Your child may bring valentines for his/her classmates on that day. Please make sure that your child’s name is on the valentine but leave it blank otherwise. In other words, PLEASE do not address the envelopes or valentines to specific friends. The children pass out their own valentines, and it makes it a difficult process when they are looking for specific bags to put them in!
Little Scouts will be closed Monday, February 15th!
