Thanksgiving has been the topic of the week...we have learned SO MUCH about this fun holiday and why we celebrate it! The children learned about the Pilgrims taking a boat from England and meeting the native Americans. We discussed all the ways that the Native Americans helped the Pilgrims. We talked about what it means to be thankful, a really big concept for such little people! This is the definition that we came up with to help them understand a little bit: Thankful is what we feel when we feel happy for what we have We asked the children what they were thankful and got some really great answers! Take a look at our board in the hallway! For art this week it was a turkey-palooza! We made hand-print turkeys for our portfolios, we used a crazy looking sponge to paint feathers for turkeys, and we started to create our turkey headbands for a special treat next week! We can't forget about our corn that we made at the beginning of the week painting with legos! At our themed center tables we have had all sorts of turkey fun! We practiced our letter and name recognition by matching up letter beads on our name turkeys, we strengthened our fine motor muscles putting "feathers" on our turkey cups and by picking up teeny tiny buttons for our turkey color match. And finally, we worked on number recognition and one-to-one correspondence with our pin the feathers on the turkey game! Gentle Reminders:
