The holidays are approaching quickly, and we have been hard at work learning about how our 5 senses can help us enjoy the holiday season! We had to start with an explanation of what we we mean by our five senses: smell, taste, touch, hearing and seeing; and what we use them for: to learn more about the world around us. Once we got a handle on that, we talked about the different things that might be around us or available to us during the holiday season and how our senses help us to explore them. Some ideas that came up are holiday lights, live trees INSIDE our houses, candles on a menorah, lots of cookies baking in the oven, jingle bells...I bet that everyone can come up with lots more examples! Lots of painting at the art table this week! We have been very busy working on a special holiday gift! We had some fun holiday themed centers this week. We used our senses of touch and sight (and worked on our fine motor and spatial reasoning) when we used a teaspoon to fill jars with fluffy "snow". We also used those two senses while working out the tiny muscles in our fingers stringing beads onto the branches of our Styrofoam trees. In addition to the senses above, our sense of smell was activated with the always popular gingerbread play dough! Next week we will continue our fun exploration of the winter holidays! We will also have a few special guests next week. We are expecting visits from both the LFHS choir and the band! Gentle Reminders:
Please, please, PLEASE check your child's spare clothes bin. We have a few children who only have shorts as a spare set....and their little legs will be quite chilly now that winter has arrived if we have to use them!! Little Scouts will be closed December 18th - January 2nd for Winter Break! School will resume on Wednesday, January 3rd!
