It's been a bit of a funny farm around here this week...but we have had a lot of fun!! We have been very busy learning about the animals who live on the farm. We read a number of books about specific animals, some were funny, silly books and some were non-fiction. We talked about how each animal on a farm has a "job". Cows give us milk, chickens give us eggs, we get wool from sheep....even farm cats have an important job...to chase the mice that try to eat the animals food!! We also learned some interesting animal facts. The children were amazed to learn that the reason that pigs play in the mud so much is to cool off...they thought that they just liked being dirty! At the art table this week we created our very own farm scenes...a few of our farms look like they were caught up in some pretty awful tornadoes! :) We also made our own messy pigs, assembled a paper plate chicken, which helped us work on our spatial skills and we painted spots onto a cow. You can see these adorable animals hanging in the classroom and out in the hall! In the photos below you will see us "milking" a cow. Ok, so it was a rubber glove filled with water...but it feels very similar! We also played a silly animal sounds game that everyone enjoyed this week! Each child was given a paper bag with a farm animal in it. They had to identify the animal and then walk around making the animals sound until they found their animal partner. It was about as loud and silly as you can imagine!! Next week we will be talking about Thanksgiving and all the things that we are thankful for! Little Scouts will be closed Wednesday, November 22nd- Friday, November 24th. With the holidays coming up, we thought that there might be a chance that someone is upgrading their current digital camera. If you (or anyone you know) has a digital camera that they are no longer using and would be willing to donate to our class, we promise that we will put it to very good use!
