Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere!! There is just so much to do with pumpkins! We talked about the growth cycle of these little round orbs of fun (seed, sprout, leaves, flower, pumpkin), where they grow (vines on the ground), what they need to grow (just like all other plants, they need sun, water and air) and what we can do with them! We painted pumpkins at the easel and we made hand-print pumpkins to go along with one of our favorite pumpkin poems. Fine motor work and number recognition disguised as pumpkin theme fun was the name of the game this week! We enjoyed making pumpkins with our new orange play dough, used our fall lacing cards and played with two pumpkin number games. In the first game we identified the number and then put the correct number of pumpkins on the sheet. We also played a "self correcting" pumpkin game where both the number and the correct number of pumpkins were on a sheet, and our job was to place small pumpkins and count to make sure that we knew what number we were working with. We also worked those hand muscles by using tweezers to "pick" the pumpkins in our sensory table and beaded with orange and black beads. Next week we will carve our classroom pumpkin after we have made some scientific observations. We will then be moving on to bats and spiders!
Information Regarding Halloween: We will be celebrating Halloween on Tuesday, October 31st. Festivities will be from 9:15 A.M.-11:30 A.M. More information will follow next week!
