What an eventful week we have had! We were very excited to welcome Julianna back to Little Scouts this week. We have officially finished up our Arctic studies. There are so many fascinating facts that we learned about the arctic and arctic animals. Because it is so cold there, many of the animals that live there have developed special adaptations like furry feet to help them survive the harsh climate. At the art table this week we painted arctic hares, assembled a fox and completed our January portfolio page! Check out our bulletin board in the hallway for these projects and lots of fun facts! At center time this week we continued playing with the arctic animals in our sensory bins. As always the children also really enjoyed playing with play dough! We did a fun experiment to show how blubber keeps animals warm in the Arctic. The children first put their hands in cold water to see how chilly it felt. They then put their hand in a double layered plastic bag filled with butter into the cold water. They were surprised to see that it kept their hand warm! Next week we will be traveling down the the south pole so that we can learn about our favorite fine feathered friends...the penguins!
