This week we moved to the tip of the earth, the Arctic Circle! We took out our globe and looked to see where the Arctic Circle is, what countries are included in the arctic circle and where the tippy top of the earth is...the North Pole! We learned that the days and nights are very different there...depending on the time of year, it might be dark (or light) for a whole day!! We also began our exploration into Arctic animals like polar bears, seals and walrus' as well as the arctic fox and the snowy owl! Did you know that a polar bear is actually not white?? That is just one of the many cool things we learned this week! At our art table this week we glued "fur" to polar bears and started our paper plate walrus project. At circle time this week we heard one of our favorite stories, that also happens to be a little science experiment! It is the story of a polar bear who is always wishing that his fur was a different color...at the end...it's a cup of magic bleach that helps return to his proper color! The kids have a great time chanting along with the "kids" in the story! The children really enjoyed playing with the arctic animals in the arctic sensory bins during center time. We also had a number recognition game out this week...an arctic animal one to one correspondence activity with buttons. Gentle Reminders: **We will be closed Friday January 18th and Monday January 21st! **Please be sure to bring snow-gear on Tuesday! If the weather forecast is correct, it will be the only day next week that we will be able to get out and enjoy the (forecasted) snow! Please be sure that your child has snow-pants, boots, mittens and a hat! **We will be closed Friday, February 8th for the Little Scouts Teacher In-service training day! Next week we will continue learning about the Arctic! We hope that you enjoy the long weekend!!
