Gingerbread was the theme of the week, and we had so much fun! We read two versions of the original Gingerbread man story, and then read a number of different variations! The Gingerbread Bear, The Gingerbread Girl, and The Gingerbread Cowboy. We tried to predict which books the Fox would eat the boy. We had a blast at the art table working on a gingerbread project and some holiday projects! We assembled our own gingerbread men and made wrapping paper for our special holiday gifts! We had fun with different gingerbread themed manipulatives that focused on fine motor and visual perception skills this week. One of our old standbys, gingerbread play dough is great for working out the small muscles in our fingers. We used our spatial skills to put together our gingerbread man puzzle. We played a partner game in which the children had to take turns and practice their counting as they asked their partner how many cookies they would like and served them to each other using a pancake flipper! Another center worked on both visual perception skills and fine motor. We had to use our fine motor skills when picking up the teeny tiny shapes for our gingerbread shape match game and our visual skills were used when trying to mimic the arrangement of the shapes on gingerbread man. We had a lot of fun decorating a huge magnetic gingerbread house over and over again!! The children were encourage to try some patterning in their decorations as well! Next week we will be exploring the Winter Holidays using our 5 senses!
