We have been learning about spiders and bats this week. We learned about what bats and spiders eat and where they make their homes. We also learned about how they are helpful to us...without bats and spiders there would be A LOT more mosquitoes, beetles and other insects around to bother us! At our art table this week we worked on spatial reasoning while assembling our bats. We painted a "surprise" spider web (wax resist fun!) and made fingerprint spiders to put in our webs. We also "sewed" spider webs with paper plates and yarn and started working on our Halloween wreaths! Our bat number game at center time helped reinforce number recognition and visual discrimination. Even if the children aren't quite at the point of understanding what the symbol "6" represents, it is helping to strengthen our visual discrimination skills to match the numerals together correctly instead of (for instance) matching the 6 to the 9. We also played with our orange play-dough this week and worked on patterning. Next week we will continue with our spooky Halloween activities: pumpkins, spiders, bats, OH MY!
Friday, October 30th Please send your child in his/her costume and make sure to send a change of clothes! We will be changing out of our costumes before we go outside to help preserve them. Please refrain from sending any play weapons (even if they are part of the costume). Our plan for the day: We will be having our special Halloween snack, playing some Halloween games and having a Halloween Hunt! Around 11:00 we will change out of our costumes and hopefully go run around outside :) Little Scouts is closed tomorrow, enjoy the long weekend!!
