We have spent the week talking about bugs and insects. We discussed what makes a bug an insect, and which bugs are insects and which ones are just "bugs"! (Confused yet? We are!) So, this is what we learned: insects have 3 body parts, 6 legs and 2 antennae. We have been singing a song that helps us remember what it needs to be an insect, it goes like this: Buggy Anatomy Song (Sung to London Bridge is Falling Down) Head and thorax, abdomen. Abdomen, abdomen Head and thorax abdomen. That's an insect. Every insect has six legs. Has six legs, has six legs. Every insect has six legs. That's an insect. Antennae to feel their way, feel their way, feel their way. Antennae to feel their way. That's an insect For art this week we painting paper plates which transformed into lovely ladybugs. We water-colored some beautiful insects and we cut out and assembled adorable bees that you can see hanging up in the hallway! We loved examining the bugs and insects under a magnifying glass, plastic of course :) The children got really good at identifying the 3 body parts and counting legs to see if they were insects or "just bugs". We also worked on our fine motor strength using tweezers to pick up "worms". We have a very busy week next week!
