Happy Birthday Nora! Mary, Mary, Quite contrary...How does your garden grow? We have been busy learning about how plants grow. But before we could talk about what they need to grow, we needed to figure out what is considered a plant! At its most basic, we learned that a plant is something that grows, that has a stem, leaves and roots. We also learned that plants can be big or small...trees are plants too! Some plants grow fruit, some plants grow flowers, some plants grow vegetables...but all plants need the same things to grow. Water, Sun, Soil and Air. We looked at seeds of all sorts and, and learned that all the nutrition a plant needs to start growing in contained inside of that seed! We are busy getting ready for the end of the year, so our art table was a sort of art table/ skill building table this week! We used watercolors to paint, which we then cut out into flower shapes. We also drew a portrait for our journal. We offered a few flower centered center time options this week each working on a different skill. Our fine motor skills were strengthened using tweezers at our pollen transfer game. We worked on number identification skills with our magnetic number game. Our build a flower game is great for those small finger muscles, and a stem counting game where they had to add pom pom flowers to the stem and count how many flowers they had made worked both our number recognition skills and our fine motor skills!
