Happy Earth day! This week we learned about how to keep the Earth healthy so that it is around for a long, long time. Recycle. Use less. Reuse things when you can. Turn off the lights. Turn off the water. We read books, sang songs and had a grand old time. For art this week we made a coffee filter earth, a recycled paper project and completed our April portfolio page. Grandma Mack came back from her trip and we got to make music with recycled items! We had a grand time crinkling newspaper, banging on empty containers and shaking plastic bottles together! Who knew that we could make such sweet music?!! In order to try to help the children understand the very big concept of why we recycle we did a little "experiment" to show how you can turn a recycled item into something new! We pretended that cheerios were tires filling up the landfill...we smashed our "tires" and saw how much room we could save. We then mixed our "tires" with a few extra ingredients and turned our old "tires" into a new road for use with our matchbox cars!
