We talked a bit more about the world under the sea this week. We talked about the different layers of the ocean (the ocean surface, the twilight zone and the seafloor) and what types of sea life you might find in the different layers. We also learned that the deeper you go in the ocean, the colder it gets...because the water filters out the sunlight! No green plants grow in the twilight zone because there isn't enough sun! It is really, really cold on the seafloor!! We had a very busy week at the art table: lots of painting going on! We used paint to print on an octopus with silly curly legs, we water-colored a beautiful seahorse and we painted paper plates that will turn into a clam and a whale! At center time this week we introduced another super fun fishing game. Fishing with numbers required the children to "hook" a number fish and match it to the correct number on their game board, it was a bit hit! We played with instruments as a class! We took out our bells, tambourines, triangles, and sticks and rocked out to some fun songs! We had a visit today from a very sneaky leprechaun! Ask the children what he did to our water and juice. He then left us a yummy snack!!
Next week we will be talking about the arrival of spring!! (Hopefully mother nature will cooperate with our plans!!)
