Another week spent in the chilly waters of the south pole! We continued our penguin exploration by reading lots of informative books that taught us about all the different types of penguins, did you know that there are 17 different types? We assembled a penguin, made adorable penguin headbands and worked on a page for our portfolios. We measured ourselves against a penguin cut out....the Emperor penguin is the largest of all the Penguins and taller than all our threes! The children really enjoyed playing with our penguins during center time this week. Icebergs, insta-snow and our light table were some of the materials we used to mimic the frozen habitat of Antarctica! Another center we had was our penguin tracing pages which we use with dry erase markers. We had to trace the line from the penguin to the fish...it can be tricky to control our marker at first, but the more we tried the better we got! We also had our penguin number recognition game out this week. We needed to identify the number, and "feed" the penguin the appropriate number of fish erasers. We wore our penguin headbands while pretending to be penguins huddled together to keep themselves and their eggs (which they hold on their feet) warm! It is very hard as a human to hold an "egg" on your feet without it rolling away! We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Thursday,
February 14th. Your child may bring valentines for his/her classmates on that day. Please make sure that your child’s name is on the valentine but leave it blank otherwise. In other words, PLEASE do not address the envelopes or valentines to specific friends. The children pass out their own valentines, and it makes it a difficult process when they are looking for specific bags to put them in! We have a total of 18 children in the class. REMINDER. . . Little Scouts will be closed Monday, February 18th in honor of President's Day!
